Q&A with Gobinder Gill

When you were a journalist, which one of your interviews with a high-profile personality was the most memorable and why?

I started in radio broadcast in the mid 1980's doing news reporting and at the same time started writing for newspapers and eventually became a reporter with CBC television.

My interview with Mother Teresa was memorable because the way she made me feel..."special". I must add that she was also a great listener. She always paused for a couple of seconds before responding.

What inspired you to write your book "Achieving Prosperity Through Diversity"?

I felt that many organizations overlooked the importance of Diversity and Cultural Sensitivity issues in the workplace.  For example, It is expected that in the coming years, one out of three  positions in Canada will have to be filled by immigrants due to low birth rates and  baby boomers beginning to retire. Diversity in the workplace needs to be viewed as a business opportunity for growth and not has a hindrance.

I believe successful businesses need to be aware of this exciting and challenging period in the modern workforce. If the businesses are not open-minded in their new strategies and new emerging markets, they will miss the golden opportunity of the 21st century.

How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?

I train companies in the art of diversity and cultural sensitivity so they can be productive and profitable.

Do you have any favorite quotes you would like to share?

"Don't  take 'no" for an answer, just do it" -  Cher

What is the achievement you are the proudest of in your career?

My book, " Achieving Prosperity Through  Diversity" becoming a # 1 Best Seller on Amazon.

Can you think of any failure that later set you up for success?

As  an immigrant,  orphan child growing up in Prince Geroge, BC, during the 1970's, I was constantly reminded at home and in school that I would amount to nothing in life. I proved them all wrong on all levels.
