PDUs: 1 Ways of Working, 1 Power Skills

Event description

A feasibility analysis concluded he should stay home.
A risk register that suggested he might not return home.
A budget that was only half the amount he needed.
A scope definition that felt impossible to control.
The only thing that was crystal clear… the risk was worth the reward.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia on February 24th. For over 7 months, Ukrainians have had to defend their country, their loved ones, and their future from an aggressor that wants to destroy their independence and erase their very identity. In short, Ukraine needs all the help it can get.

Two weeks after the invasion started, Milos traveled to the Polish-Ukrainian border to help evacuate families who had lost everything. After bearing witness to the extent of the crisis, he knew it wasn’t enough. Milos decided to apply his project management skills to something new… delivering medical supplies and a drone to the front lines of the war in Ukraine himself.

Milos Pospisil

Milos Pospisil is a Project Management Professional and an independent Management Consultant with 20 years of experience serving clients around the world. With an International Business and Finance degree from the University of Alberta, Milos’s career and passion for languages have taken him worldwide, leading projects across Canada, the US, Europe, and in unique locations like Mauritius and Trinidad. He is fluent in English, French, and Czech and manages functional Spanish and Russian. His consulting and complex project experience extends across many industries.

Milos is a political refugee to Canada from Russian-occupied Communist Czechoslovakia and grew up in British Columbia from a young age. After graduating from university with a Bilingual BCom, Milos moved back to Prague, where he started his career with Accenture. His blended identity and language skills put him in a unique position to build bridges between his local management and clients across Europe. Milos was soon leading projects within Financial Services Transformation Programs across Europe, Africa, and Asia, even managing teams onsite in Mauritius.

With the allure of constant travel fading, Milos took a challenging Program Management role in a private equity turnaround for a Czech subsidiary of a European yellow pages company. The turnaround involved a multifaceted digital transformation and modernization program. Reporting to the CEO, he collaborated with the Executive Team to achieve significant efficiencies and cultural changes in a highly resistant environment that clung to a pre-revolutionary mindset.

In 2010, Milos returned to Canada and founded Centaurus Consulting Corp., transitioning into independent Management Consulting. His first major client was Finning, where he recruited a team of specialists, developed a custom PMO, and helped lead the successful turnaround of an ERP implementation crisis as the Business Recovery Program Manager.

Over the past 12 years, his clients have leveraged his diverse skill set to help them manage highly complex client-facing accounts and projects. Working with TELUS led to extensive experience with the public sector clients such as the BC Gov and the PHSA. TELUS Executives recognized the value Milos could offer by uniting disparate groups across the organization on complex, non-standard initiatives. Not being afraid to plunge into the unknown, he agreed to manage highly complex multimillion telco projects for their mining sector clients, successfully deploying services to remote Canadian mine sites.

Eventually, Milos returned to his finance roots with Kyriba to manage specialized treasury transformation projects for their high-profile enterprise-class clients. Managing over a dozen concurrent DevOps Agile projects, he built trust and credibility in a niche industry with companies like Uber, Airbnb, Shopify, Levi Strauss, Robinhood Markets, MetLife, and Williams Sonoma.

Currently, Milos is working with a great group of professionals at Equinox Gold, providing management and strategic consulting services supporting IT Service Management and the development of a Technology PMO. He has also thoroughly enjoyed learning about project management in the engineering sector by helping QCA Systems develop a custom Project Management Office.

Milos is an avid adventure traveler to countries across the Middle East, Africa, South America, and the Pacific Rim. Married to his wife of 18 years, he’s also a proud father to three beautiful young daughters. As a certified PADI Scuba Diver and AIDA Freediver, Milos loves to be in the water and is working on improving his spearfishing skills.
