Q&A with Sandra Phillips

What advice would you give to a project manager who is working on a project that is looking to scale up?

Scaling up means a lot of change for everyone involved in the project. It will be messy, you won’t have all the answers, and most likely there will be conflict. Just move through it, one day at a time, never losing sight of the end goal.

Based on your experience what lesson learned advice would you share with someone looking to establish a startup?

My recipe for entrepreneur would sum up as: once you know what you want to do, write a clear and concise action plan and then ACT upon it. Every day! Determination is the key to making ideas reality. Don’t fear failure, it’s just a detour to the road of success. And don’t forget to have fun while doing it.

If the next innovation is driverless cars how do you see this impacting the shared mobility industry?

The shared mobility industry is preparing all of us for the driverless car revolution. It prepares our society to share vehicles that are part of a large network (and not own them). It prepares operators to learn the patterns of our driving behaviours so the autonomous vehicles know when and where to pick us up.

What would you say is the first step in conflict resolution?

Go to the balcony. Which is another way of saying, observe, wait, sleep over it.

I have learnt that the hardest thing in conflict is not to react immediately. Good conflict resolution takes time and knowing all the pieces of the puzzle.

What books have inspired you or ones that you have recommended most?

It’s actually a sailing book: Ellen MacArthur’s Taking on the World.
